## Company Overview

CFO Club is an Australian-based SaaS platform that provides the finance operating system for scaling companies. Founded by a finance operator with direct CFO, consultant, and finance transformation experience, CFO Club addresses the gap between how finance teams actually operate and how they should operate at each stage of growth.

The core insight: most finance functions at growing companies evolve reactively. Reporting improves while controls lag. Forecasting becomes complex while systems struggle. Governance is introduced late. Finance leaders know improvements are needed but struggle to prioritise what to fix first.

CFO Club provides the structure, measurement, and tools to make finance improvement deliberate and measurable.

## Platform Architecture

### Layer 1: Assess

The assessment engine evaluates finance function maturity across five weighted domains:

**Governance (25%)**
Questions cover: delegation of authority, approval workflows, risk registers, policy frameworks, internal controls, compliance tracking, board governance structure, and audit readiness.

**Financial Reporting (20%)**
Questions cover: month-end close process, management reporting, board reporting (KPIs, commentary, variance analysis), cash flow reporting, and financial data integrity.

**Planning & Forecasting (20%)**
Questions cover: budgeting process, rolling forecasts, scenario modelling, cash flow forecasting, strategic planning integration, and analytical tools.

**Operations & Systems (20%)**
Questions cover: primary accounting system maturity, ERP/tool integration, process automation, data governance, AP/AR automation, and technology roadmap.

**Finance Leadership (15%)**
Questions cover: strategic influence, team structure, capability development, stakeholder management, board relationship, communication, and talent pipeline.

**Assessment Types:**
- Core Assessment: 40 questions (8 per pillar), ~15-20 minutes
- Deep-Dive Assessments: 48 additional questions across functional areas
- Readiness Assessments: Auto-calculated from existing responses (IPO Readiness, Capital Raising, Investor & Board, M&A Due Diligence, Audit & Compliance)

**Scoring:**
Each question scored 1-5:
1. No process / not in place
2. Informal / inconsistent
3. Documented but not embedded
4. Standardised and repeatable
5. Best practice, measured and continuously improved

Pillar scores converted to 0-100 scale. Overall score = weighted composite.

### Layer 2: Plan

After assessment submission, the platform automatically generates:

- **90-Day Improvement Plan**: Identifies lowest-scoring pillars and selects top improvement projects based on rules:
  - If governance < 30: recommend Delegation of Authority, Risk Register, Policy Framework
  - If reporting < 40: recommend Month-end close process, Management reporting pack, KPI framework
  - Similar rules for all pillars and score thresholds

- **Transformation Roadmap**: Prioritised list of initiatives with impact levels (high/medium/low) and suggested quarters

- **Action Priority Matrix**: Effort vs impact classification of improvements

### Layer 3: Track

- **Finance Project Tracker**: Kanban-style project management for improvement initiatives with tasks, owners, due dates, and status tracking
- **Maturity Trend**: Line chart showing score progression over time across multiple assessments
- **Reassessment**: Periodic reassessment to measure uplift

## AI-Powered Tools (Detail)

All tools accept company context and generate tailored output:

### Delegation of Authority Builder
Generates a complete DOA matrix with specific monetary thresholds proportionate to revenue band and stage. Categories include operating expenditure, capital expenditure, contracts, hiring, revenue commitments, write-offs, bank signatories, and payroll changes. Thresholds are provided in the company's base currency.

### Risk Register Builder
Pre-populates industry-specific risks across Strategic, Operational, Financial, Compliance, and Technology categories. Includes likelihood/impact scoring, mitigation strategies, and a risk appetite statement appropriate to stage.

### Board Pack Generator
Creates board reporting structure with industry-relevant KPIs, commentary frameworks, financial summary templates, and presentation guidance.

### KPI Dashboard Builder
Designs 8-12 KPIs with specific formulas, RAG thresholds, data source recommendations, owner assignments, and an implementation roadmap.

### Forecast Framework Builder
Builds complete forecasting process with model structure, scenario definitions (base/downside/upside), update cadence, accuracy tracking, and tool recommendations.

### Policy Builder
AI-generates full policy documents across 18 policy types: Delegation of Authority, Expense Management, Procurement, Anti-Money Laundering, Travel & Entertainment, Credit Management, Data Protection, IT Security, Information Classification, AI Usage, Business Continuity, Code of Conduct, Whistleblower Protection, Anti-Bribery, Conflict of Interest, Health & Safety, Remote Working, Equal Opportunity.

### Policy Framework Guide
Creates prioritised policy implementation roadmap with gap analysis, governance structure, communication plan, and compliance calendar.

## Assessment Report AI Insights

When users generate AI insights on their assessment report, they receive:

- **Executive Insight**: 2-3 sentence tailored diagnosis based on their specific company context
- **Pillar-by-Pillar Analysis**: For each pillar — specific diagnosis, 3 actionable recommendations, benchmark context vs similar companies, and a quick win implementable this week
- **Suggested DOA Limits**: Full delegation of authority table with specific monetary thresholds in the company's currency, tailored to their revenue and stage
- **90-Day Focus Areas**: 3 prioritised action items
- **Priority Risks**: 3 context-specific risks for their industry and stage

## Benchmarking

Companies are benchmarked against:
- Similar company stage (startup, scaling, established, pre-IPO, public)
- Industry average
- Revenue band peers
- Top quartile performers

Placeholder benchmarks for early-stage companies (<$5M):
- Governance avg: 35, Reporting avg: 45, Planning avg: 30, Operations avg: 40, Leadership avg: 50
- Top quartile: 70-80 range

## Data Collected During Onboarding

- Company name
- Industry
- Company stage (startup/scaling/established/pre-IPO/public)
- Revenue band
- Total company headcount
- Finance team size
- Primary accounting system

This context is used to personalise all AI-generated outputs, benchmarks, and recommendations.
